Senior Adult Oncology
Diagnosis
The Senior Adult Oncology Program offers expert clinical evaluation. A wide variety of diagnostic testing is available for diagnosing cancers. Patients being seen by the program need to have prior biopsy or cancer diagnosis.
Treatment
Treatment of cancer can include observation, chemotherapy, radiation, surgery or supportive care. The senior adult oncology practitioners work closely with the patient to provide a plan of care that is therapeutic and acceptable to the patient.
Research
As a university-based facility, clinicians and basic researchers at Moffitt collaborate to discover new therapies for cancer aimed at bringing new knowledge and treatments to patients as quickly as possible. In addition to specific cancer site research studies, the Senior Adult Oncology Program has research studies aimed specifically at quality of life issues and chemotherapy oncology in the elderly.
Follow-Up
The Senior Adult Oncology Program offers referring physicians and patients the opportunity to receive a second opinion or advice on a particular problem. Patients who elect to have their treatment carried out by the Center are offered extended follow-up by the interdisciplinary team after treatment is complete. If the patient chooses to recieve care locally, closer to home, Moffitt phsicians work closely with local physicians to deliver treatment in the patient's community. The program also interacts with community agencies to address other important issues such as caregivers, psychosocial and transportation concerns.
