Moffitt Supporters Deliver Message to State Capitol
Moffitt Day in the Capitol, held March 17, 2010, in Tallahassee, scored a resounding success in bringing statewide attention to the critical need for public funding of Moffitt's cancer research, treatment and education efforts.
This year's fourth annual Moffitt Day event involved more than 75 Moffitt supporters, including grassroots advocates from 12 Florida counties, clinicians and staff from several Moffitt departments, and a group of volunteers from the Cure on Wheels organization who journeyed 300 miles on bicycles from Tampa to the Capitol to raise awareness for our cause.
Moffitt Day 2010 was a multi-faceted campaign that included meetings with more than 50 state legislators by members of the Speak Out for Moffitt coalition who traveled to the Capitol by bus for the day; Moffitt exhibits in the Capitol Rotunda and Courtyard; and an evening reception on the 22nd floor of the Capitol building.
The event put a human face on the very important health policy issue of cancer treatment and research, and delivered a clear message to Florida legislators that the battle against cancer must remain a top priority for state funding.
