A newly diagnosed patient is enrolled in Total Cancer Care, and as part of this study, scientists at Moffitt are collecting tumor tissue samples and blood from patients who agree to participate. Here’s how the study works:
1. Information is gathered about your complete medical history.
2. If a biopsy or surgery is needed, permission is requested from the patient to collect and study the excess tissue that is removed. Occasionally blood and urine samples also are collected.
3. Patients are then followed for life. If a promising new development or new drug associated with a trial is available that may be of benefit to you, we request permission to contact you in the future with this information.
There are no extra doctor visits, and there are no additional expenses associated with the Total Cancer Care research project. In accordance with HIPAA regulations, your medical information will remain private.
