Dr. David Shibata


David Shibata, MD

Dr. David ShibataDr. Shibata is a Colorectal Surgical Oncologist and Head of the Section of Colorectal Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. He attended medical school at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and received his General Surgery training at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He completed a Research Fellowship in Cancer Biology at Harvard Medical School and a Surgical Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Dr. Shibata's clinical practice is dedicated to the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer. He is particularly interested in laparoscopic/minimally invasive approaches to the treatment of colorectal cancer as well as sphincter-preserving techniques for patients with rectal cancer. He is actively involved in colorectal cancer clinical research and clinical trials. Dr. Shibata's laboratory research centers on the study of specific molecular mechanisms such as DNA methylation that contribute to the development of colorectal cancer. Dr. Shibata sits on the panel of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) that establishes national guidelines for the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer.
